Ever wonder why Jesus, who knew people's hearts, would dine with a Pharisee, especially when we know they often had hidden motives? He wasn't naive!
The Art of Strategic Engagement
It might seem surprising that Jesus would accept an invitation from a Pharisee, especially given the tensions and their often-critical intentions. But Jesus didn't shy away from people, even those who opposed him.
- He wasn't afraid to engage: Jesus understood that reaching people meant going where they were, even into the homes of those who questioned or condemned him. He saw every interaction as an opportunity.
- Opportunity for Truth: He knew that being at their table, rather than just speaking to crowds, could offer a unique platform to speak truth directly into their lives and challenge their thinking, even when it made them uncomfortable.
- Setting an Example: His willingness to dine with various people, including those considered sinners or adversaries, showed that fellowship doesn't mean endorsing everything they do, but rather opening doors for the Gospel.
