What does it mean for an eye to be 'single' or 'evil'? It's not just about physical sight, but about the focus of your heart and mind.
The Heart's True Vision
When Jesus speaks of a "single" eye, he's not talking about having only one eye! It means an eye that is pure, undivided, and focused on the right things. It's an eye that sees clearly without distortion or a hidden agenda.
Conversely, an "evil" eye is one that is corrupted, flawed, or turned towards wrong desires. It's an eye that is clouded by sin, selfishness, or a misplaced focus. This internal corruption leads to a life full of "darkness," where your actions and decisions are misguided.
This "eye" represents our core orientation – what we treasure, what we desire, and what we set our hearts upon. If that inner vision is clear and fixed on God, our whole life is illuminated. If it's clouded or fixed on selfish pursuits, our whole life descends into darkness.
