How do we truly 'magnify' God? Is it about our words, or something deeper?
Mary's powerful declaration, 'My soul magnifies the Lord,' isn't just about speaking praise. It's about her entire being—her inner self, her affections, her deepest emotions—actively exalting God.
Making God Great
To 'magnify' God means to make Him appear great, to celebrate His greatness. We can't add to God's inherent greatness, but we can reflect it through our lives and our worship. Mary’s soul was the instrument through which God’s greatness was made known in that moment.
The Whole Person Engaged
This magnification involves the entirety of our inner life – what the Bible calls the 'soul.' It's where our identity resides, our feelings, our will. When our soul magnifies the Lord, it means our deepest self is focused on celebrating who He is and what He has done.
