It's easy to overlook that the sprinkling wasn't just on Aaron and his sons, but also on their garments. This signifies that their entire role, including the outward symbols of their office, was set apart for God's service, showing that holiness touches every aspect of the priesthood.
Then Moses took some of the anointing oil and of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron and his garments, and also on his sons and his sons’ garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his garments, and his sons and his sons’ garments with him.
English Standard Version (ESV)
Following the offerings and the symbolic presentation of the priests' hands filled with consecrated food, Moses performs the final consecration rite. He takes both the holy anointing oil and blood from the altar and sprinkles them on Aaron, his sons, and their priestly garments, marking them as officially set apart for their sacred duties. This act concludes the extensive seven-day ordination ceremony detailed in this chapter.
Why did Moses use both anointing oil and blood to set apart Aaron and his sons? What deeper meaning lies in this dual action?
This verse describes the climactic moment in the consecration of the Levitical priests. Moses uses two powerful elements:
The combination of both oil and blood was crucial. It communicated that the priesthood was not just divinely appointed but also called to serve as mediators who understood both the need for sacrifice and the power of the Spirit. They were set apart for God's service, requiring both cleansing from sin and empowerment from above.
It wasn't just Aaron and his sons who were sprinkled. What does it mean that their garments were also consecrated?
The text is very specific: Moses sprinkled both the priests and their garments. This wasn't just a symbolic gesture; it emphasized that their entire role and ministry, down to the very clothes they wore, were to be set apart for God's service.

This teaches us that our service to God should encompass every part of our lives. Our actions, our words, and even the 'uniform' we wear in our daily roles should reflect our consecration to Him.
