Ever wondered why the 'fattiest' parts of the animal were reserved for God? It wasn't about flavor, but about symbolism.
In the peace offering, the fat that covered the entrails and all the fat on them was specifically designated for God, to be burned on the altar.
Why the Fat?
- The Choicest Part: Fat was considered the richest, most desirable, and most valuable part of the animal. Offering it to God signified giving Him the absolute best we have.
- Symbol of Vitality: Fat is linked to life and vitality. By offering it, the worshipper acknowledged that life itself comes from God.
- A 'Food' for God: The burnt fat was called a 'food offering' or 'offering made by fire' – a sweet aroma to the LORD. This points to a deep, intimate communion, where God Himself is nourished by the best of the sacrifice.
This practice reminds us that our worship and offerings to God should always stem from a heart that wants to give Him the highest quality of our devotion and resources.
