Was God just trying to give the Israelites a picky diet? Or was there something deeper at play?
The dietary laws in Leviticus were far more than a health code or a list of 'don'ts.' They were a practical, daily expression of holiness. By separating clean from unclean, God was teaching Israel to be set apart – holy as He is holy.
This distinction wasn't arbitrary. Many unclean animals were associated with chaos, impurity, or even pagan worship. Avoiding them helped the Israelites turn away from the practices of the nations around them and focus on their unique covenant relationship with God.
Even though these specific food laws are no longer binding for believers today (as the New Testament clarifies), the principle remains: God calls us to live lives that are distinct, pure, and devoted to Him in all areas, including our choices.
