The text doesn't just call Deborah a prophetess; it highlights her as "a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, she judged Israel." This emphasis on "she" suggests a deliberate contrast to expectations, positioning her as the active force in leadership during a time when Israel desperately needed divine guidance and justice. It reveals how God can raise up unexpected individuals, even women whose roles were traditionally domestic, to steer the nation.
Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the people of Israel came up to her for judgment.
