Israel's pattern was predictable: sin, suffer, cry out. But why did God still listen?
A Glimpse into Israel's Spiritual Drift
This verse is nestled within a passage describing a dire cycle. The Israelites had sinned greatly, serving other gods (Baal and Ashtoreth). Their punishment was severe oppression by the Ammonites. In their distress, they finally cried out to the Lord (Judges 10:10).
God's question in verse 11 is posed after they've confessed their sin and are crying for help. It highlights the deep-seated ingratitude and forgetfulness that characterized Israel's walk with God. Despite their repeated betrayals, God still engaged with them, reminding them of His consistent actions on their behalf. This reveals God's persistent mercy, even when faced with His people's rebellion. He doesn't immediately turn away; He calls them back to the reality of His covenant faithfulness.
