Jericho was under a total ban, meant for complete destruction. Yet, Rahab and her entire household were spared. How is this possible?
The destruction of Jericho was absolute, a clear sign of God's judgment. But Rahab's story is a powerful exception.
A Special Exemption
God's commands were severe, but His grace is also profound. Rahab, a foreigner and a prostitute, acted in faith by hiding the Israelite spies. This act of obedience and trust in the God of Israel, whom she recognized as supreme, earned her and her family's lives.
Faith's Reach
Her inclusion in Israel, and remarkably in the lineage of Jesus, wasn't just a personal reward. It was a divine sign that God's salvation was not limited to Abraham's descendants. It foreshadowed the inclusion of Gentiles into God's people, much like a wild olive branch grafted into a cultivated tree.
