Why does the world reject Jesus? It’s not random; it’s a direct consequence of His unwavering testimony against its darkness.
Jesus explains the fundamental reason for the world's hostility toward Him: His truthful exposure of its sin.
Speaking Truth to Power
'The world cannot hate you, but me it hateth, because I testify of it that its works are evil' (John 7:7). Jesus identifies Himself as the target of the world's hatred precisely because He confronts its hidden corruption. His very presence and message highlight the world's evil deeds.
Two Kingdoms Collide
The 'world' here refers to humanity living apart from God, characterized by its sin and resistance to divine truth. Jesus’ brothers, not yet believing, are aligned with this 'world' and don’t experience its hatred. Jesus, however, embodies the kingdom of God and therefore becomes its object of opposition.
A Persistent Witness
This principle remains true today. Anyone who faithfully testifies to God's truth will inevitably face opposition from a world committed to its own ways. Jesus' example calls us to be bold witnesses, understanding that persecution is often a sign that we are speaking God’s truth effectively.
