When the world turns against you, it might feel like you're doing something wrong. But Jesus offers a different perspective.
Jesus tells his followers, 'If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.' (John 15:18). This isn't just a statement of fact; it's a profound comfort.
A Shared Experience
The original Greek suggests that Jesus' hatred by the world wasn't just a past event, but a continuing reality. When the world hates you, it's echoing the same animosity it directed at Jesus. This shared experience creates a unique bond.
Proof of Belonging
Jesus explicitly links this hatred to their identity: 'If you belonged to the world, it would love you... But because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you' (John 15:19). The world's rejection is therefore a powerful sign that you are no longer of the world, but chosen out of it by Christ.
