The news of Jesus' arrival drew a crowd, but their interest wasn't solely focused on Him. Something else, a recent and astonishing event, had captured their attention.
The people who came to Bethany weren't just coming for Jesus; they were also drawn by the incredible spectacle of Lazarus, the man raised from the dead.
A Double Attraction
- Jesus Himself: As the miracle worker, Jesus was the primary draw. His presence always stirred interest, especially among the Jewish people who were looking for signs of the Messiah.
- The Sign of Lazarus: The resurrection of Lazarus was an undeniable, public demonstration of divine power. It was a fresh, vivid testament to Jesus' authority, and people were eager to see the proof with their own eyes. They came not just to see the One who performed the miracle, but the one who was the miracle.
This shows that even in a crowd drawn to Jesus, there can be mixed motives and levels of spiritual engagement.
