Jesus contrasts Himself with those who try to enter the sheepfold a different way. What can we learn from this stark difference?
Jesus uses the 'door' imagery to expose anyone who tries to lead God's people astray. He states that all who tried to enter before Him (or apart from Him) were "thieves and robbers." This wasn't just about physical intruders; it was about false teachers and misleading doctrines.
These 'thieves' come to steal, kill, and destroy. Their agenda is ruin, not redemption. They might seem appealing, offer superficial benefits, or even use religious language, but their ultimate goal is to separate people from the true Shepherd and His abundant life.
Jesus, on the other hand, is the door that leads to life and pasture. He secures our entrance, protects us, and provides for us. Recognizing Jesus as the sole, legitimate door helps us discern between those who genuinely care for God's flock and those who seek to exploit them.
