The verse states Jesus 'was in the world' before it was even made. What does this mean for His eternal nature?
Before the first sunrise or the first breath, the Word, who is Jesus, already existed.
The Eternal 'Was'
John emphasizes the Word's continuous existence. The phrase 'He was in the world' isn't just about His later physical presence but points to His eternal being, present even before the cosmos came into existence. He wasn't a created being appearing on the scene; He was.
Presence in Creation
This presence extends to the very act of creation itself. The text says, 'the world was made through him.' This means the Word was not just a passive observer before creation, but the active agent through whom all things came to be. His existence predates and encompasses the entirety of creation.
