This verse isn't just saying God sees everything; it emphasizes that His perspective is utterly comprehensive, encompassing the farthest reaches of the earth and all that unfolds beneath the sky. It highlights the limitation of human knowledge in contrast to God's, whose infinite view ensures nothing is outside His understanding or His providential care. This vast, unhindered sight is precisely why He alone can know the hidden ways of wisdom.
For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. When he gave to the wind its weight and apportioned the waters by measure, when he made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder, then he saw it and declared it; he established it, and searched it out.
English Standard Version (ESV)
Job and his friends have been debating where true wisdom can be found, with Job arguing it’s not in the earth or the sea, but hidden from human eyes. This verse arrives as the narrator interjects to declare that God, unlike humans with their limited understanding, possesses this profound wisdom because His perspective is utterly boundless. It sets the stage for the powerful conclusion that true wisdom is found solely with the Creator, who sees and governs all things.
