What if the way we defend God actually offends Him? Job calls out his friends for this very thing, and it’s a challenge for us too.
Job throws down a gauntlet to his friends in this verse. He asks if they are willing to 'speak falsely for God' and 'talk deceitfully for Him.'
The Problem with Bad Advocacy
Job's friends are convinced that God only punishes the wicked with severe suffering. Therefore, Job must be wicked to be suffering so much. Their argument sounds like it’s defending God’s justice, but Job sees it as a lie.
They are twisting the truth to fit their rigid understanding of how God should act. They’re not speaking for God’s glory, but for their own idea of God’s justice. It's a defense that doesn't actually serve God at all.
