Jerusalem is called the 'throne of the LORD.' But what does that really mean? It's more than just a capital city; it's about where God's presence and rule are centered.
God's Central Dwelling
In Jeremiah's time, the physical city of Jerusalem, and specifically the Ark of the Covenant within it, represented the tangible presence of God among His people. It was the place where His authority was acknowledged and His rule was exercised.
A Glimpse of the Heavenly
However, the prophets like Jeremiah looked beyond the earthly city. They saw Jerusalem as a symbol pointing towards something greater: the true dwelling place of God. This future reality isn't confined to a geographical location but extends to the entire Church, where God's Spirit resides and His rule is established.
The Universal Gathering
This isn't just a concept for Israel. The verse promises that 'all nations shall gather to it.' This points to the expansive nature of God's kingdom, extending beyond any single ethnic group to embrace all who turn to Him.
