We talk about God's 'name,' but what does that really mean? Jeremiah connects His greatness directly to the power inherent in His very being.
More Than Just a Label
Jeremiah continues, "you are great, and your name is great in might." It's easy to think of a 'name' as just a word, but in the ancient world, a name carried the essence of a person's character, reputation, and power.
Power in Revelation
When Jeremiah says God's "name is great in might," he's saying that the very revelation of who God is carries immense power. His power isn't just an attribute He , but something intrinsic to His identity. It's seen in creation, in His providential care, and in His ability to bring both blessings and judgments. This isn't the powerless might of idols, but the active, sustaining power of the one true God.
