This prophecy highlights an astonishing, almost miraculous fertility for Zion. The verse emphasizes that her "birth" will be so instantaneous and effortless that it precedes the very pains of labor, signifying a sudden, unprecedented national rebirth without struggle. This signifies a dramatic divine intervention, where a nation is brought forth in a moment, bypassing the natural, often arduous process of growth.
“Before she was in labor she gave birth; before her pain came upon her she delivered a son. Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment? For as soon as Zion was in labor she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the point of birth and not cause to bring forth?” says the LORD; “shall I, who cause to bring forth, shut the womb?” says your God.

What does it mean for Zion to give birth to a 'son' that represents an entire nation? It points to a collective, powerful new identity.
