God speaks, God calls, God warns. But what happens when we consistently refuse to listen?
The core reason for the impending judgment is laid out clearly:
'because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen.'
Persistent Disregard
This isn't a one-time oversight. The repetition of 'when I called... when I spoke...' highlights a pattern of behavior. God's calls came through prophets, through His Word, perhaps even through the quiet nudges of His Spirit. His 'speaking' was His clear instructions and warnings. Yet, the people's response was silence and deafness.
Choosing Evil
Their refusal to listen wasn't passive. The verse continues, 'but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.' They actively chose disobedience. They preferred their own ways, their own desires, and their own 'delights' over God's perfect will. This willful choice to sin, despite God's persistent invitations and instructions, seals their fate.
