If God's power and attention are unchanged, why does it sometimes feel like salvation is far off? Isaiah points the finger inward.
This passage makes a crucial point: the hindrance to salvation and God's response is not with God, but with His people.
The Root Cause
Commentaries consistently highlight that the 'shortened hand' or 'dull ear' are not reflections of God's nature, but are perceived consequences of the people's own actions. Their 'iniquities' and 'sins' are presented as the actual obstructions.
A Wall of Separation
Verses 2 and following in Isaiah 59 detail these sins: violence, falsehood, injustice, and a departure from God's ways. These actions create a spiritual chasm, effectively blocking the flow of God's blessings and answers. It's not that God can't save or hear, but that our sin creates a condition where His saving power and audible presence are held back from us.
