While "steadfast, sure love" describes God's promise, the phrase "for David" is not just about King David but points to the Messiah, emphasizing that this everlasting covenant is ultimately fulfilled in Christ, God's chosen King. This highlights that the enduring love offered is deeply rooted in God's faithfulness to His appointed ruler.
Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples.
