Do you ever feel like you’re not good enough? That God’s promises are for others, but not for you?
This verse reminds us that our standing with God isn’t based on our own achievements.
Isaiah calls out to those who 'pursue righteousness' and 'seek the LORD.' This isn't about people who have already arrived at perfect holiness, but those who are actively striving and searching.
Then, he directs their gaze: 'look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the quarry from which you were dug.' This powerful imagery points directly to Abraham and Sarah.
The Unlikely Foundation
- Abraham: Called by God when he was alone, a single individual with no offspring. His faith was remarkable, but it was God who called and empowered him.
- Sarah: Advanced in age and barren, she seemed like a 'quarried' stone from which no new life could possibly emerge.
God chose them, not because they were inherently special or powerful, but because of His sovereign purpose and faithfulness. This is the foundation upon which Israel, and by extension, the church, is built.
