Isaiah 1:15-16

God's refusal to listen isn't just about their sinful actions; it's a direct response to the way they pray. The posture of "spreading out your hands" was a common prayer gesture, but here it becomes a hollow show because their hands are stained with violence, revealing a deep disconnect between their outward devotion and their inward corruption.
When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil,
English Standard Version (ESV)
The Lord is addressing the people of Judah and their rulers, likening them to the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah due to their deep sinfulness and corruption. Despite the devastation already inflicted upon their land and cities, they continue in their rebellion, offering sacrifices and prayers without true repentance. This passage emphasizes that God sees their hypocrisy and is disgusted by their religious acts when their hands are stained with injustice and violence.
You've probably seen people praying with hands lifted to the sky. But what if that outward action, no matter how fervent, doesn't reach God's ears?
Isaiah’s message to Judah is stark: their prayers, accompanied by the physical act of spreading their hands, were met with divine silence.
God says, 'your hands are full of blood.' This isn't a metaphor for anger; it's a severe indictment pointing to deep-seated sin that renders worship unacceptable.
The reason for God's refusal to hear Judah's prayers wasn't a lack of effort, but the unaddressed sin staining their lives, specifically their 'hands full of blood.'

This verse directly echoes Isaiah's sentiment, stating that if unrighteousness is harbored in the heart, the Lord will not listen to prayers. It highlights the internal state of the worshipper as crucial for acceptable prayer, just as Isaiah emphasizes the 'blood' on their hands.
Proverbs 1:28This proverb presents a similar warning: 'Then they will call to me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but will not find me.' This parallels Isaiah's message of God turning away from those who, despite outward religious acts, are unrighteous.
Matthew 23:27-28Jesus condemns the religious leaders for their outward show of righteousness while being inwardly corrupt, likening them to whitewashed tombs full of dead men's bones. This strongly resonates with Isaiah's accusation that their hands are full of blood despite their many prayers.
1 John 3:15This passage connects hatred and murder with the absence of eternal life, stating, 'We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. 1:10-15 Judea was desolate, and their cities burned.
