What happens when the things meant for God's house end up only serving our own needs?
The verse concludes with a stark declaration: "for their bread shall be for their hunger only; it shall not come to the house of the LORD." This means that their offerings, which were supposed to be dedicated to God and brought to His temple, would now only serve their basic needs for survival.
Their sacrifices were no longer considered sacred gifts to the Lord, accepted and blessed by Him. Instead, they were reduced to mere sustenance for themselves, a grim reminder that their spiritual connection to God was severed. They were unable to bring their offerings to the Temple, symbolizing their distance from God's presence and acceptance.
This highlights the purpose of true worship: it's not just for our own benefit or sustenance, but ultimately to honor and serve God, bringing our best to His house. When our offerings are merely for ourselves, they miss their divine purpose.
