When life feels chaotic and the enemy seems unstoppable, where do we find our footing? Habakkuk reminds us that our confidence isn't in shifting circumstances, but in the unchanging One.
Habakkuk grapples with the terrifying rise of the Chaldeans, who are wreaking havoc. Yet, in the midst of this storm, he anchors himself in God's eternal nature. He exclaims, "Are you not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One?"
An Unchanging God
The phrase "from everlasting" points to God's existence outside of time. Unlike nations and empires that rise and fall, God has always been and always will be. This is not just a nice theological concept; it's the bedrock of Habakkuk's faith.
The "Rock" of Security
Later in the verse, God is called "O Rock." A rock is stable, unmovable, and a source of protection. In a world that feels like shifting sand, God's eternal and unchanging character is the only true foundation. When we feel overwhelmed, remembering that our God is the everlasting Rock provides an immovable anchor for our souls.
