What's often missed is that Abraham didn't just circumcise his household; he actively performed the rite on every male, including himself, Ishmael, and all the servants, "that very day." This immediate and comprehensive obedience highlights his deep commitment to God's command, demonstrating that the covenant's sign was to be applied to the entire community under his care, not just himself.
Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him.
