Ezekiel 34:15-16

This verse isn't just a promise of future care; it's a radical claim of divine intimacy. Notice the repetition of "I myself"—God is not delegating this crucial shepherding, but personally undertaking the feeding and resting of His people. This emphasizes that His leadership isn't distant, but a hands-on, present reality for those who belong to Him.
I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord GOD. I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them in justice.
English Standard Version (ESV)
Just before this, God denounces the corrupt shepherds (leaders) who have been feeding themselves instead of the flock of Israel. Now, God steps in to declare that He Himself will personally care for His scattered sheep, promising to lead them to pasture and to rest in safety. This marks a pivotal shift from divine judgment against false leaders to the ultimate promise of God's own tender, restorative care for His people.
Ever feel like you're just a number in a crowd? Ezekiel 34:15 cuts through that feeling with a powerful, personal promise.
The Lord makes a profound declaration here: 'I myself will be the shepherd...' This isn't a delegation or a command to someone else. God steps forward personally. This means His care is direct, intimate, and unwavering. He doesn't just oversee; He is the shepherd.
Direct Divine Action
This 'I myself' emphasizes God's direct involvement. He is not distant or detached. He is actively feeding and leading His sheep. This personal commitment assures us that His attention is fully on us, His people. It highlights that His provision and protection come straight from His own heart and hand.
In a world that constantly demands more, what does true rest look like? God promises it to His flock.
The promise 'I myself will make them lie down' speaks volumes about the peace and security God intends for His people. Shepherds would lead their sheep to safe pastures and resting places, away from predators and danger. God's shepherding means He actively creates an environment where His sheep can find complete rest and safety.
More Than Just Food
This isn't just about physical sustenance. It's about spiritual and emotional well-being. God's people are brought to a place of security, where they can truly relax, recover, and trust. This 'lying down' is a picture of contentment and peace, found only when under the watchful care of the true Shepherd.

I will feed my flock,.... This is repeated for the further confirmation of it, that it might be depended upon that the Lord would feed his people in the manner before promised; and it gives a reason why he would do it, because they were his flock; he had a right unto them, a property in them; they were separated and distinguished from others by him, as the church of God is; and which is also purchased…
