Who are these 'righteous men' judging the unrighteous? They aren't saints in white robes, but something far more profound.
The verse states, 'the righteous men, they shall judge them.' This might sound like a call for perfect people to administer justice. But looking closer, these 'righteous men' are described as instruments chosen by God to carry out His judgment.
- Divine Authority: Even if the people carrying out the judgment aren't perfect themselves, when God ordains it and empowers them, their actions become expressions of His righteous will.
- Chaldeans as Agents: In the context of Ezekiel, these 'righteous men' are often understood to be the Chaldeans (Babylonians). Though not God-fearing people, God uses them as His agents to punish the severe sins of Israel and Judah.
- A Necessary Wrath: God's justice is serious business. When His people turn away so drastically, He will use whatever means necessary to bring about consequence and ultimately, hope for restoration.
