This verse highlights that the wicked son isn't just doing bad things, but actively failing to do the righteous actions his father practiced. The phrase "and that doeth not any of those duties" points to a profound neglect and reversal of his father's positive example, not just an absence of overt evil.
(though he himself did none of these things), who even eats upon the mountains, defiles his neighbor’s wife, oppresses the poor and needy, commits robbery, does not restore the pledge, lifts up his eyes to the idols, commits abomination, lends at interest, and takes profit; shall he then live? He shall not live. He has done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon himself.
English Standard Version (ESV)
This passage describes the wicked son of a righteous man, contrasting his actions with his father's piety. While the father followed God's commands (listed in verses 6-9), the son ignores them and actively engages in forbidden practices like idolatrous worship on "high places" and adultery. This sets the stage for God's declaration that each person will be judged for their own sins, not their father's.
We often assume our family's spiritual legacy determines our own. But what if you're born into a godly lineage, yet stray far from the path?
Ezekiel's message here is powerful: individual accountability before God.
From Father to Son: A Twist
The verse describes a wicked son, contrasting him with a righteous father (who was detailed in verses 5-9).
This isn't about a family curse; it's about personal choices. God holds individuals responsible for their own actions, not the sins or righteousness of their parents.

Verse 11. - The word "duties" is not in the Hebrew, but is legitimately introduced as expressing Ezekiel's meaning, where the mere pronoun by itself would have been ambiguous. In English we might say, "He does these things: he does not do those;" but this does not fall in with the Hebrew idiom.
