Think about comparing yourself to others. We often measure our goodness against those we deem worse. But what if God says you've actually gone further in the wrong direction?
Ezekiel 16 paints a stark picture of Jerusalem's spiritual adultery. The city, God's chosen people, is accused of not just following the wicked ways of surrounding nations like Sodom and Samaria, but of exceeding their sinfulness.
A Worse Offense
The verse declares, 'Not only did you walk in their ways and do according to their abominations; within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.' This isn't about simply participating in sin; it's about reaching a new depth of depravity.
Aggravating Circumstances
Why was Jerusalem's sin worse? Because they had God's law, His covenant, and His presence. They had been shown immense grace and received abundant blessings. Their betrayal of God, with all this knowledge and privilege, made their corruption more profound than those who had never known God's ways.
