When God's presence was withdrawn from the camp, Moses set up a special place to meet with Him. What does this separation teach us about holiness and seeking God?
The Israelites had sinned, and God's presence was no longer in their midst. In response, Moses took his tent and pitched it far outside the camp, calling it the 'Tent of Meeting.' This wasn't the grand Tabernacle yet to be built, but a significant step.
A Symbol of Separation
The physical distance of the tent from the camp powerfully symbolized God's displeasure with Israel's sin. It was a visible sign that the sacred had been withdrawn from the profane.
A Place of Hope
Yet, it was also a place of hope. While God had stepped back, He hadn't completely abandoned them. Those who genuinely sought the LORD could still go out to this place to find Him, demonstrating a desire for reconciliation and a willingness to separate themselves from the sin that had grieved God.
