Esther doesn't immediately state her request, but instead asks that the king and Haman attend another feast tomorrow. This isn't just timidity; it's a strategic delay designed to heighten the king's anticipation and subtly communicate the extraordinary gravity of her coming petition, a move guided by divine providence.
If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my wish and fulfill my request, let the king and Haman come to the feast that I will prepare for them, and tomorrow I will do as the king has said.”
English Standard Version (ESV)
Esther has bravely entered the king's presence uninvited, an act that could cost her life, but the king extends his golden scepter in favor. He invites her and Haman to a private banquet, and Esther agrees, but only asks them to come again tomorrow, promising to reveal her request then. This delay, seemingly due to her own hesitation or strategy to further gain the king's favor, is divinely orchestrated to allow for a crucial event to unfold that will set the stage for her petition.
