You’ve trained for this, you’ve prepared, you’ve given it your all. But sometimes, despite best efforts, the outcome isn't what you expected. Why?
Ecclesiastes pulls back the curtain on our human striving. We see the swift runner, the mighty warrior, the wise planner, the intelligent investor, the skilled diplomat – all equipped with the very traits that should lead to success. Yet, the text declares that the race isn't guaranteed to the swift, the battle not guaranteed to the strong, and so on. This isn't to say these qualities are useless, but it cautions us against assuming they are the sole or ultimate determinants of outcomes. Our efforts, skills, and strengths are important, but they operate within a larger framework.
This verse challenges the idea that life is a simple equation of input equals output. It shows that even with the best preparation and natural ability, external factors can and do influence results. It's a sobering thought, but also a release from the pressure of absolute control.
