English Standard Version (ESV)
Daniel is still processing the terrifying vision of the fourth beast, so dreadful and unlike the others. He's particularly fixated on the ten horns that emerged from its head and asks for clarity about one specific horn that grew up afterward, causing three of the original ten to fall. This horn is described as having eyes and speaking boastful words, appearing more prominent than its companions.
Daniel's vision is packed with symbolic imagery. What do these 'horns' on the fearsome fourth beast represent?
The ten horns on the fourth beast are understood to represent ten successive kingdoms or rulers that emerged from the vast, oppressive empire described by the beast itself. These aren't just random appendages; they signify distinct political powers that would arise and exert their influence.
One horn stands out, not just for its size, but for its unique attributes – eyes and a mouth. What does this tell us about its character?
The 'other horn' that arises is particularly striking because it possesses human-like qualities: eyes and a mouth. This isn't just another kingdom; it represents a power with intelligence, strategy, and a voice that speaks with immense authority.
