Imagine being so far from God that even your enemies are called in to condemn you. That's exactly what God does here, bringing in the Philistines and Egyptians as witnesses against His own people.
God, in His ultimate sovereignty, commands His prophets to 'Publish in the palaces at Ashdod and in the palaces in the land of Egypt.' This isn't just a random command; it's a strategic move.
A Divine Summons
By calling on these foreign powers, who were often enemies of Israel, God is highlighting the depth of Israel's sin. These nations, despite their own failings, would be able to recognize and condemn the injustice and chaos within Samaria. It’s like saying, 'Your sins are so blatant, so outrageous, that even those outside God's covenant can see them and will judge them.'
The Shame of Rejection
This tactic served two purposes: it exposed Israel's iniquity to the world, and it deeply shamed them. God was effectively saying, 'You have rejected my law and my ways, so much so that even those you might consider godless will serve as judges.' This underscores the severity of turning away from God's grace and justice.
