Even the mighty apostle Paul battled fear and discouragement. What does this tell us about God's strength and our own human struggles?
Paul found himself in Corinth, a vibrant and complex city. Despite initial successes, like Crispus and his household believing, he faced opposition and contempt. The commentaries suggest Paul might have been intimidated by the city's sophistication, the challenges of reaching the elite, and the escalating hostility from some Jews. This led to a sense of 'weakness, and fear, and much trembling' (as he later wrote to the Corinthians themselves). It’s powerful to see that God meets us not when we’re strong, but precisely in our moments of vulnerability and doubt. The vision wasn't a reward for boldness, but a lifeline thrown to a courageous man who was feeling the weight of his mission and the hostility of his opponents.
