Imagine going from being an enemy to a friend – not because you earned it, but because it was given. That's the incredible shift Paul describes.
From Alienation to Belonging
The core of God's work 'through Christ' is reconciliation. This word signifies a change of relationship, moving from hostility or separation to peace and closeness.
- The 'Us': Paul uses 'us,' referring to believers. Before Christ, humanity stood in opposition to God due to sin. This wasn't just a mild disagreement; it was a state of enmity.
- The Divine Exchange: God, in Christ, doesn't just overlook our sin. He absorbs it. Through Jesus' death and resurrection, the penalty for sin is paid, and the barrier is removed. We are no longer seen as enemies but as forgiven children.
- A New Standing: This reconciliation isn't temporary or conditional on our performance. It's a finished work that grants us a new standing before God – one of peace, acceptance, and intimate relationship.
