Ever wonder why Moses covered his face? It wasn't about hiding his looks, but something far more profound about God's presence.
The Weight of Radiance
Moses had been in the presence of God on Mount Sinai. When he came down, his face was radiant, literally shining with the glory of God (Exodus 34:29-35). This wasn't a fleeting glow; it was a powerful, visible manifestation of God's holiness and presence.
Protecting the People
However, this intense glory was too much for the Israelites to bear. It was a constant, overwhelming reminder of God's awesome power and the weight of His covenant. To allow them to approach and interact with him, and to focus on the message God was giving them, Moses veiled his face. He was shielding them from the full, blinding intensity of the 'outcome' – the dazzling, finished glory that signified God's direct interaction.
