Paul acknowledges our physical reality, but then immediately draws a stark line. What does it mean to 'walk in the flesh' without letting it dictate our spiritual warfare?
Our Physical Reality
Paul starts by saying, 'For though we walk in the flesh...' This isn't about denying our bodies or our human limitations. We live in physical bodies, we get tired, we face physical challenges. This is our earthly existence.
A Different Kind of Warfare
But then he pivots: '...we are not waging war according to the flesh.' This is the crucial distinction. Our 'fight' isn't fueled by human strength, worldly wisdom, or fleshly desires. When we try to win spiritual battles using carnal methods – like manipulation, harsh criticism, or relying on worldly influence – we're fighting in a way that’s of the flesh. This leads to fleshly results, not God’s victory.
