1 Timothy 5:13-14
This page isn't yet indexed by search engines.
The verse doesn't just call these women lazy; it links idleness directly to a dangerous pattern of behavior. Their aimless wandering from house to house isn't just about passing time, but specifically about finding opportunities to become busybodies and gossip, speaking things they shouldn't. This highlights how a lack of purposeful engagement can easily spill over into harmful meddling.
Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going about from house to house, and not only idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not. So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander.
English Standard Version (ESV)
