1 Peter 2:22-24

It's easy to focus on Jesus' sinlessness, but this verse also highlights something profound about his speech. The original language emphasizes that no "guile" or intentional deception was ever present in his words, showing that his honesty was as absolute as his innocence. This points to a complete integrity where his words perfectly reflected his righteous heart.
He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
English Standard Version (ESV)
Peter is building his case for Christ's perfect obedience and sinless nature, contrasting it with the impurity of Israel and the Gentile world. He's just described believers as living stones being built into a spiritual house, and now he points to Jesus as the cornerstone, whose sinless life was prophesied and validated by his suffering for us. This statement directly precedes Peter's call for believers to put off all malice and deceit and to long for the pure spiritual milk of God's Word.
Jesus walked among us, and His words carried immense weight. But what made them different? This verse points to a radical purity.
No Deceit in His Mouth
This verse highlights the absolute integrity of Jesus' words. In a world where deception is common, Jesus was utterly truthful.
Why is Jesus' perfect record so crucial for us? This verse points to His ultimate purpose as our sacrifice.
