It sounds so official, doesn't it? 'Thus says the Lord.' But what happens when those powerful words are used to deliver a message that isn't from God?
Zedekiah’s greatest deception wasn't just the iron horns; it was the claim that his message came directly from God. He used God's name and prophetic language to lend authority to a lie. This is a dangerous game, and it’s something we see all too often. People twist God’s promises or invent new ones to suit their own desires or agendas.
Discernment is Key
King Ahab wanted to hear good news, and Zedekiah gave him exactly what he wanted. The danger of false prophecy lies in its ability to sound convincing and offer comfort, even when it leads people astray. True prophecy from God, however, aligns with His character and His established Word. It doesn't just feel good; it speaks truth, even when that truth is hard.
