Elijah is at his lowest point, hiding in a cave after a dramatic victory. Where do you think God finds us when we're feeling defeated or withdrawn?
The LORD's Persistent Question
It's easy to imagine that when we're hiding, whether out of fear, shame, or despair, God might lose track of us. But the Bible shows us again and again that God actively seeks us out, even in our most isolated moments.
Here, Elijah is physically in a cave, a place of darkness and concealment. Yet, it's precisely there that "the word of the LORD came to him." God didn't wait for Elijah to come out; He met him in his hiding place.
This encounter isn't about judgment, but about drawing Elijah out. God's question, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" isn't just a factual inquiry. It's an invitation to unpack his heart, to express his fear and frustration, and to reconnect with the purpose God had for him.
