King David is old and weak, yet in his final recorded public act, he bows. What does this posture reveal about his kingship and faith?
David's bowing on the bed is a striking image. He's no longer the mighty warrior king who slew Goliath. He is frail, perhaps barely able to hold himself up. Yet, in this moment of physical weakness, he performs an act of spiritual strength and submission. Bowing is an act of worship and profound respect. He bows in affirmation of God's plan unfolding through Solomon, and perhaps in worship of the God who has faithfully seen him through his entire reign. It’s a posture of surrender, acknowledging that true authority and lasting success come from God alone.
