Why is it easier to claim love for God than for the person next door? This verse reveals a critical spiritual reality.
John points out the inherent challenge of loving someone you’ve never seen (God) when it’s difficult to love someone you have seen (your brother or sister in faith). God is spirit, infinite, and beyond our full comprehension. Our brothers and sisters, however, are tangible. They have needs, flaws, and personalities we interact with daily. If our love fails to bridge the gap to the visible, imperfect people around us, it raises serious questions about whether we truly grasp or cherish the invisible, perfect God.
