How can you be absolutely sure you're on God's side? It's not just about feelings or past decisions. John points to something tangible.
John tells us here that assurance of our relationship with God isn't found in wishful thinking, but in observable reality.
What We Do Matters
He says, 'By this we shall know...' This 'this' refers to the preceding verses about loving others, not just with words but in action. When we put God's commands into practice, especially the command to love one another, we gain a confident assurance that we truly belong to Him.
Reassurance, Not Perfection
This doesn't mean we have to be perfect. Instead, it's about the consistent direction of our lives. When our lives reflect love and obedience, our hearts can find peace and reassurance before God, knowing we are aligning with His truth.
