God calls us not to change who we fundamentally are, but to transform us from the inside out. That old marker you were born with? It doesn't define you anymore.
Paul is addressing a situation in the Corinthian church where some Jewish believers were feeling pressure to either remove signs of their Jewish identity (like circumcision) or Gentiles were feeling pressured to adopt them. Paul's answer is clear: stay as you were called.
God's Call Is Transformative, Not Erasive
Your identity in Christ is the primary identity. Circumcision, in this context, represented a physical mark of an outward covenant. Paul is saying that in Christ, the inner transformation is what matters. The external markers of your previous life or cultural identity should not become a source of division or a requirement for belonging to God's people. What matters is that you are called by God.
