The world has its ideas of success and intelligence. But God's perspective is often startlingly different. What does this mean for how He builds His kingdom?
Paul previously established that 'the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing' and 'the cross is the power of God' (1 Corinthians 1:18). Here, he elaborates on why this seemingly paradoxical approach is essential.
Choosing the Unlikely
God’s strategy involves using things that appear weak and unimpressive to the world. He doesn't rely on worldly influence, brilliant intellects, or immense power as the primary means to advance His kingdom. Instead, He often uses:
- The 'weak' things of the world
- The 'ignoble' and 'despised' things
- Things that are not
This intentional selection process ensures that when something does happen, it's undeniably His work, leaving no doubt about the true source of power and effectiveness.
